WOODBRIDGE — The Cheshire volleyball team did not merely hand previously undefeated Amity its first loss of the season on Tuesday night.
The Rams did it in Woodbridge and they did it via sweep.
In a rematch of the 2022 SCC Tournament final, Cheshire earned a 3-0 victory by game scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-21.
The Rams improved to 6-1 in the process and knocked the Spartans to 7-1.
Setter Mary Nugent was the guiding light with 18 assists. A number of them went to Emma Danaher, who tallied 11 kills.
Also for Cheshire, Eva Catalanotto delivered six kills, three blocks and two aces. Kira Strauss found the floor with four aces.
Olivia Scotti added six digs and three assists. Caitlin Fanning was a force up front with four blocks.
Southington 3, Glastonbury 1: The Blue Knights own the best record in the Central Connecticut Conference at 6-1 after beating the Guardians (5-2) in an interdivisional showdown in Glastonbury.
Game scores were 25-23, 17-25, 25-20 and 26-24.
Both setters were spot-on in this one. Glastonbury’s McKenna Reynolds had 38 assists and Southington counterpart Megan Smith collected 35.
With 11 digs, Smith finished with a double-double. So did Glastonbury’s Kara Shea (15 kills, 13 digs).
Southington senior Cami Wessels, the AVCA Connecticut player of the week, had the match high for kills with 19. Etta Rocco racked up 11 kills.
Defensively, the Blue Knights were anchored by Alyssa Ferreira (21 digs) and Paige Raines (19).
Bristol Central 3, Platt 0: Eva Dudley added another 10 kills to her school-record total, but the Panthers could not put much a dent in the Rams, who swept the CCC South matchup in Bristol by game scores of 25-21, 25-8 and 25-13.
Central, which was coming off its first loss, a sweep at the hands of Southington, improved to 5-1. Platt is 2-6.
Dudley had 10 digs to go along with her 10 kills. Isabella DeMatteo got to 12 digs, while setter Gisella Zelesky came through with 15 assists and nine digs.
