MERIDEN – Stefan Rodriguez and Cristina Sendral were the top male and female finishers in the heat of the Meriden Fun Run Race No. 2 on Wednesday.

There were 22 runners in the field that included 19 males and three females.

Rodriguez, of Kensington, crossed the finish line first on the 3-mile run in 17:24.

He was followed by Brian Kimmey (2nd, 9:02), Marc Kelly (3rd, 19:20), Richard Fernandes (4th, 19:21) and John Minervino (5th, 20:47).

Sendral was ninth overall and finished with a time of 23:23.

The Fun Run will run every Wednesday at 6:30 until Aug. 18. Starting line is the Platt High School track area. Free to all runners. The event includes a 3-mile course (flat out and back course, using the linear trail); and a 3/4 mile kids race.

SOUTHINGTON - Less than a week remains to register for the 2021 Wayton Open tennis tournament.

The annual competition will be played July 10-18 at Southington High School.

Competition will be featured in 14 divisions: Men's A Singles (4.0 rating & above) and B Singles (3.5 & below); Men's 45+ Singles; Men's A Doubles (combined 7.5 & above) and B Doubles (combined 7.0 & below); Women's Singles and Doubles ; Mixed A Doubles (combined 7.5 & Above) and B Doubles (combined 7.0 & below); High School Boys and Girls Singles and Doubles; High School Mixed Doubles.
