R-J Expos sweep, improve to 7-1

MERIDEN — The Record-Journal Expos swept Malloves Jewelers at Buzzy Levin Field in Middletown on Sunday to improve their first-place record in the Greater Hartford Twilight Baseball League to 7-1.

The Expos took the first game 11-1 and the second game 7-2.

A.J. Hendrickson pitched a complete game in the opener. In the nightcap, the Expos pulled away with five runs in the final two innings after Malloves had pulled even 2-2 in the fifth.

Ben Maycock got the pitching win in Game 2 in relief of Nick Foell.

Jonathan Walter went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI to lead the R-J offense. Jack Rich, Jason Sullivan and Evan Harasta had two hits apiece.

In Game 1, Hendrickson allowed six hits and one walk while striking out four. 

Offensively, the Expos built a 4-0 lead they eventually blew open with six runs in the sixth.

Will Kszywanos was the leading hitter, going 3-for-5 with a double. Maycock also doubled and drove in two runs in going 2-for-5.

Matt Fusco, Hector Gonzalez and Jack Rich collected two hits apiece. Mike Gulino had two RBI.

The Expos, now in first place by a game and a half, play at Ceppa Field on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. They host the South Windsor Phillies (4-3).
