AROUND THE HORN: The math adds up for winning squad at Hunter GC; local organizations slate benefit tourneys

MERIDEN — Joseph Fasi and Ed Woronick teamed with Les and Brett Zimmerman to win the Hunter Men’s Club four-man “1 Gross + 2 Net Combined” Tournament on Saturday at Hunter Golf Course.

The quartet compiled an 11-under-par score of 202 to win by four strokes. Two teams shot 7-under 206.

Placing second on a match of cards was the unit of Del Weston, Paul Reynolds, Jerry Morytko and Bruce Bader. Steve Mandeville and partners John Adamowicz, Larry Michaud and Larry Jardine took third.

The fourth-place foursome of Dan Wodatch, David Victor, Carlos Vazquez and Drew Lesnieski shot a 6-under 207.

Low individual rounds were turned in by Brett Zimmeran (1-over 72), Wodatch (74),  Adamowicz (74) and Morytko (75).

Aldo Dagostino remains in first place in season points with 345. The Zimmermans are tied for second at 305.

Boys & Girls Club slates tourney

MERIDEN — The Boys and Girls Club of Meriden will play its 31st annual Westaff Golf Tournament on Thursday, Sept. 2 at Hunter Golf Course.

Registration and breakfast are at 10 a.m. Shotgun start is at 11:30.

Lunch is on the course and post-golf dinner at Violi's. Both are included in the golf fee.

The tournament raises money for Boys & Girls Club programs such as the nightly meals/social program “Food For Thought,” summer camps, sports leagues and the after-school “Project Learn.”

YMCA, Rotary gear up for fundraiser

MERIDEN — The Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA and Meriden Rotary Club will stage their annual golf tournament on Monday, August 23 at the Wallingford Country Club.

The event starts at 10 a.m. and will include contests, lunch, dinner and auction.

Proceeds benefit YMCA and Rotary Club programs and services for local children, families and adults.
