MERIDEN — Fresh from his title defense at the George Hunter, Brett Zimmerman teamed with his dad, Les Zimmerman, and Nick Raissis and Ed Woronick to win this weekend’s Carolina Progressive at Hunter Golf Course.
The quartet combined on a 5-over-par 144.
Brett Zimmerman led the way, ringing up three birdies on the back nine en route to a round of 74. Les Zimmerman came in with a 77.
The Zimmermans, Raissis and Woronick won by two strokes ahead of Joe Diaz, Alex Newton, P.J. Morgan and Terry Slowther. Diaz and Slowther both carded 79s as their team finished with a 7-over 146.
Diaz and Co. tied for low net at 16-under 123, but also wound up second in that department, too. Winning on a match of cards was the team of Kevin LeMay, Albert Flores, Frank Sims and Jeff Gagne.
Morgan Wooding, Kurt Moller, Jim Canning and Eric Newhard came in at net 15-under.
In the Carolina Progressive, players picked their own teams, but the combined handicap had to be at least 30.
The format called for one best ball gross and net of the foursome on the par 5's, two best balls gross and net on the par 4's and three best balls gross and net on the par 3's.
With the completion of the Progressive, Diaz and Zimmeran are now tied for the lead in season points at 190.
