MERIDEN — Brett Zimmerman has always had a hot hand at Hunter Gofl Course.
It’s getting hotter.
Following up on last weekend’s club championship, Zimmerman won the 2020 George Hunter tournament on Sunday.
The eight-time club champ shot a 1-over-par 72 to defeat Joe Fasi, Larry Michaud and Terry Slowther by three strokes in the tournament the Hunter Men’s Club plays annually to honor George Hunter II, the long-time club professional for whom the course is named.
Zimmerman’s play on the opening and closing holes did the trick. He birdied the first and second holes as well as No. 17 and No. 18. Zimmerman also made the turn with a birdie on No. 9.
Fasi captured the net competition. He carded a 3-under 68. Dan Schipritt also came in with a net 68, but Fasi won on a match of cards. Michaud placed third with a net 69.
Next up for the Hunter Men’s Club is next weekend’s Ryder Cup Tournament. In that event, Meriden residents square off against club members residing in neighboring towns. Format is match play.
