NFL: Meriden’s Jenkins back with the Chicago Bears

CHICAGO — Two professional athletes with Meriden roots have landed in the Windy City.

Just over a week after Kiah Gillespie was drafted by the WNBA’s Chicago Sky, defensive tackle John Jenkins was signed Tuesday by the NFL’s Chicago Bears.

Jenkins, a 2009 Maloney grad, was with the Bears during the 2017 season. Since then, Jenkins has been with the New York Giants (2018) and the Miami Dolphins (2019).

Jenkins played in all 16 games last season with the Dolphins. He made five starts and recorded 34 tackles with a sack.

Jenkins, 30, was originally drafted out of the University of George by the New Orleans Saints in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. The 6-foot-3, 327-pound D-lineman has played in 82 career games.
