FRIDAY BASKETBALL: Wilcox makes it two straight; Feinauer’s fine, but Rams fall; LH girls outduel Law; Lady Titans nipped at the line

MERIDEN — Isaiah Thomas scored 22 points for a second straight game and Nate DeMaio and Todrique Jones added 10 apiece to power the Wilcox Tech boys basketball team to a 68-59 CTC victory over Whitney Tech on Friday night.

After an 0-2 start to the season, the Indians (2-2) have now won two straight.

Against Whitney, the Tribe extended a 13-12 first-quarter lead to 36-27 by halftime and 57-39 by the end of three before pulling the starters.

Tyson Vann’s 16 points paced the Inventors (1-6).

Xavier 38, Cheshire 36: The Falcons outscored the Rams 16-10 in the fourth quarter to wrest away the SCC crossover decision in Cheshire’s West Gym.

Parker Huntely scored 13 points to lead Xavier (5-1).

Cheshire (1-4) got a game-high 20 points from Cole Feinauer. Alec Frione added eight and Colby Griffin had six.

Southington 50, Simsbury 30: The Blue Knights (6-1) bounced right back from their first loss of the season, answering Monday’s divisional setback at Conard with a wire-to-wire CCC West crossover win in Simsbury (2-5) on Thursday.

Jared Kelly scored 17 points and Jake Napoli nailed 15 to lead Southington.

Girls basketball

Lyman Hall 52, Jonathan Law 50: The Trojans edged the Eagles in a SCC crossover in Wallingford that was tight from start to finish.

LH got 12 points apiece from Hailey Bruneau and Brianna Mik.

Bruneau also led the defense with four steals and four blocks. At the other end, Grace Gagliardi dished out five assists.

Natalie Panagrosso added nine points for LH. Julia Capello had eight.

The win was the second straight for the Trojans and it puts them back over .500 at 4-3. Law fell even to 3-3.

Hillhouse 51, Sheehan 50: Nielle Reaves hit a pair of free throws with 3.8 seconds left to lift the Academics to the SCC interdivisional victory in New Haven after the Titans had rallied from eight down midway through the fourth quarter to take a 50-49 lead with 12 seconds to play.

The loss was just the second of the year for Sheehan (5-2). Caitlyn Hunt’s 19 points were the game high. Hayleigh Lagase was good for 16.

Hillhouse (2-4) got a team-high 18 from Keyshan Johnson.

Shelton 45, Cheshire 20: The Gaels stormed to 7-1 with the SCC interdivisional victory in Cheshire’s East Gym.

The Rams fell to 2-5. Ella Watson led Cheshire with six points and Emma Watkinson had four.

Shelton’s Leya Vohra had the game high with 15.

Plainville 60, Platt 36: The Blue Devils got a combined seven 3-pointers from five different players in downing the Panthers in a CCC South crossover in Plainville.

Lillian Wazorko put up 18 points for the Blue Devils to lead all scorers. Ja’lexia West had a team-high 16 for Platt.

Plainville (4-5) also got double figures from Jaida Vasquez (13) and Tessa Susco (12). Wallica Bailey scored 11 and Aaliyah Burnley added seven for the Panthers (0-7).

Lewis Mills 45, Maloney 16: The Spartans fell to 1-7 with the CCC interdivisional defeat in Burlington.

Liv Aitken scored seven points for Maloney. Briana Pelleher put up a game-high 15 for Lewis Mills (4-4).
