Monday was no holiday for area boys basketball teams. Maloney, Cheshire and Sheehan all suffered losses on the road.
And these games weren’t close. Average margin: 31 points.
Maloney had a tall order in taking on 7-footer Donovan Clingan and undefeated Bristol Central in a CCC South game. The Spartans fell 74-30.
In the SCC, Sheehan dropped a 66-36 Oronoque Division decision to West Haven. Cheshire, tangling with Masuk of the South-West Conference, lost 55-35.
All you can do is put it in the books and move on. For the record:
Bristol Central 74, Maloney 30: The Rams got out to a 21-8 lead in the first quarter and pushed it to 44-14 by halftime.
Clingan finished with 26 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Donte Kelly was top scorer for Maloney with 10 points. Marquis Ward added seven.
Central now stands at 9-0, Maloney at 2-4. The Spartans host rival Platt on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m.
West Haven 66, Sheehan 36: Tavares Tuck tacked up 21 points and Adam El Kharraz added 15 to lead the Blue Devils.
Javaun Calhoun added 10 for the Westies (3-4), who led 18-7 after the first quarter and 35-20 at intermission.
Kyron Coviello collected a team-high 13 points for Sheehan (2-6).
After a home date with Tolland on Wednesday, the Titans take on rival Lyman Hall at LH on Friday.
Masuk 55, Cheshire 35: The host Panthers turned around a 24-22 halftime deficit in Monroe by outscoring the Rams 33-11 in the second half.
Brandon Francisco led Masuk (3-4) with a game-high 22 points. Matt Jeffery’s 11 points paced Cheshire (1-6)
