WEDNESDAY SCHOLASTICS: Wilcox volleyball vaults to 3-0; Southington spikers score third straight

MERIDEN — Finally on their home volleyball court after two long road trips to open the season, the Wilcox Tech Indians made quick work of O’Brien Tech on Wednesday, sweeping the Condors in a Connecticut Technical Conference match 25-15, 25-12, 25-13.

Athlete of the Week nominee Victoria Logodicio continued her torrid start to the season for Wilcox. The junior piled up eight assists, seven aces and four kills.

Chloe LaBissoniere also had four kills for the Tribe. She added four aces.

Wilcox is now 3-0.

Berlin 3, Maloney 0: Lyzi Litwinko’s 10 kills and three aces powered the Redcoats to a 25-11, 25-23, 25-23 CCC South sweep of the Spartans in Meriden.

Brooke Lathe led the home team with 10 kills.

Maloney stands at 1-2.

Foran 3, Lyman Hall 1: The Lions jumped to a 2-0 lead en route to the SCC interdivisional victory over the Trojans in Milford.

Game scores were 25-15, 25-23, 14-25 and 25-23.

Paige Carlson and Tori Lanese both had six aces and five kills to pace Foran (2-2).

Lyman Hall’s Mckenzie Grady had a match-high 14 digs and 10 kills. She also added two blocks.

Ellery Campbell added another double for LH (0-3) with 16 assists and 11 digs.

Sacred Heart Academy 3, Sheehan 1: Jill Manning (15 kills) and Julianna Corniello (10) were twin hammers for the Sharks in this SCC interdivisional set-to in Wallingford.

Down 1-0 after the Titans took the opening game 26-2, Sacred Heart stormed back 25-10, 25-21 and 25-21.

Sheehan setter Emily Jockle dished out 26 assists and also got to four digs. Gretchen Seibt had a team-high seven kills. Libero Madi Gaynor grabbed 13 digs.

The Titans dipped to 1-2.

Southington 3, Hall 0: The Lady Knights upped their record to 3-1 with the CCC West sweep on their home floor. Game scores were 25-8, 25-16 and 25-12.

Brooke Cooney’s nine kills and nine digs led the way for Southington, though setter Mackenzie Coppola (16 assists, 4 aces) did a good job spreading the ball. Katie Gundersen notched six kills and six aces, while Rachel Possidento pocketed seven kills and two blocks.

Defensively, Kaley Smith recorded a team-high 11 digs. Maya Lis had 10 digs for Hall (1-1).

Platt Tech 3, Wilcox Tech 0: The Panthers blanked the Indians in a CTC matchup in Meriden. 

Kayla Avila scored all three goals for the Milford school (2-1). Wilcox fell to 0-2.

Lauralton Hall 101, Lyman Hall 80: The Crusaders won the first three events to jump out to an early lead they would not relinquish in this SCC meet at Sheehan.

Caroline Krawec and Alyssa Cervero had the wins for Lyman Hall. Krawec took the 50-yard freestyle in 25.62. Cervero captured diving with 198.70 points.

The Trojans are now 1-1. The meet was the season opener for the LH squad from Milford.
