MERIDEN — Sunday hasn’t always been a day of rest for Maloney softball this season. It’s been a game day.
And a successful one at that.
For the second Sunday in three weeks, the Spartans played a matinee at the Dunn Sports Complex and came with a CCC interdivisional victory, this time against Manchester, 8-1.
Maloney spotted the Red Hawks their lone run in the top of the first, then promptly took the lead for good with two runs in home half.
The Spartans pushed their advantage to 4-1 in the second and eventually blew it open with a 4-spot in the fifth.
Taylor Trowbridge and Lizzy Barton both homered as Maloney improved to 9-2. Barton finished 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Maddy LaValle was also 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI.
Milytza Perez went the distance in the circle for the pitching win and helped her cause with two hits in four trips. Perez struck out six, walked three and allowed five hits.
The only Manchester batter to give her a hard time was Olivia Ramsdell, who went 4-for-5 and scored her team’s run.
The Red Hawks are now 2-8.
