THURSDAY SCHOLASTICS: Maloney 9 quickly regain the mojo; DePaolo’s round of 34 delivers CHS



BRISTOL — The Maloney baseball team didn’t have to dwell long on Wednesday’s frustrating loss to Lewis Mills. The Spartans rebounded with a solid 4-2 win at Muzzy Field over CCC South rival Bristol Central.

Tyler Duffy fired a complete game and Luis Delgado fired the offense going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

With a line drive up the middle, Delgado drove in Duffy with the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning

Duffy finished off a five-hitter in the bottom half by striking out the side. The junior southpaw struck out 11 batters in all. Only one of the BC runs was earned.

Raffy Rodriguez and David Stimpson added hits for the Spartans. Stimpson also drove in a run.

With the win, Maloney capped a 2-1 week and improved to 13-6, with the regular-season finale looming Monday night at Ceppa Field against Platt.

BC fell to 12-6. The Rams have lost six straight since a 12-0 start.

Amity 3, Sheehan 2: The Titans stand at 10-9 after Wednesday night’s loss at the Old Tavern Road Complex. They wrap up the regular season at home Friday against Coginchaug.

Softball

North Haven 9, Lyman Hall 1: The Nighthawks completed a perfect 20-0 regular season with the SCC victory in Wallingford. Lyman Hall’s season came to a close at 6-14.

Golf

Maloney 169, Windsor 237: The Spartans compiled a leaderboard of 39-40-41 in running away with the CCC interdivisional match with the Warriors at Goodwin Park Golf Course.

Dylan Miller snared the medal with a 4-over-par 39 on Goodwin’s front nine. Nathan Camire was one stroke back and Brady Camire came in at 41.

Quinn Lovig’s 49 capped the card as Maloney improved to 11-2 overall.

Wilcox Tech 200, Grasso Tech 211: The Wildcats rolled to 13-8 overall with the CTC crossover victory at Hunter Golf Course.

Medalist Jeremiah Soto shot a 45 over Hunter’s front nine.  Also scoring for the Wildcats were Brandon More (48), Jacob Long (50) and Hunter Ariale (57).

Cheshire 159, Shelton 165: A.J. DePaolo shot a 34 to land the medal and out-duel Shelton’s Cameron St. Pierre and Nathan Eckert by four strokes in this SCC showdown at at The Farms Country Club.

Rounds of 41 from Jack Brewster and Jack DeJoseph were also instrumental in Cheshire remaining unbeaten at 13-0-1. Dylan Gillotti shot a 43.

Boys tennis

Wilcox Tech: Chase Baez and Markeese Wright combined to finish fourth in doubles at the CTC Championships at Wesleyan University.

Jonathan Law 5, Lyman Hall 2: The Lawmen and Trojans hooked up in a tightly contested SCC matchup at Doolittle Park, with the Milford squad scoring the decision behind a sweep of doubles and a super-tiebreak victory at No. 4 singles.

LH (6-13) took the top singles matches. Nate Rininger was a 7-5, 7-5 winner at No. 1 and Anshul Patel pulled out a three-setter 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 2,
