FOOTBALL: Wilcox Tech airs it out in the rain to end dry spell

MILFORD — Senior quarterback Derek Gendreau threw four touchdown passes — three to junior Troy Mitchell — and sophomore Alberto Sarris piled up 136 yards rushing while also making 12 tackles on defense to lead the Wilcox Tech to a 26-0 CTC football victory over Platt Tech on Friday afternoon.

The victory snapped a six-game slide and puts the Indians at 3-6 going into their Thanksgiving Eve rivalry game with Vinal Tech/Goodwin Tech/Whitney Tech at Palmer Field.

Playing against Platt Tech at Foran High School on Friday in a driving rain, the Tribe carved out a 8-0 lead in the first half, then pulled away with two scores in the third quarter and one last touchdown in the fourth.

Sarris gained his 136 yards on 23 carries.

Gendreau had a strong game in rough conditions. He completed 10 of 17 passes for 181 yards.

Half of the completions went to Mitchell, who had 188 yards receiving, including touchdown catches of 4, 5 and 25 yards.

Jeremy Perez (2-42), hauled in a second 25-yard TD toss from Gendreau.

Defensive lineman Jaheem Green came off the edge to make nine tackles and two quarterback sacks as the Indians pitched their second shutout of the season.
