MIDDLETOWN — The medley relay set the tone Friday and the Southington boys swimming and diving team did not waver from there, beating Middletown 96-90 to improve to 7-1.
Derek Melanson continued his standout season for Southington, winning two individual events after anchoring the first-place medley.
Melanson captured the 200-yard individual medley in 2:05.94 and the 100 backstroke in 55.72.
He swam behind Tyler Heidgerd, Jon Cocchiola and Landon Colby on the 200 medley (1:46.44).
Each of Melanson’s medley mates went on to win an individual event. Heidgerd swam a 50.70 in the 100 freestyle, Cocchiola a 1:05.75 in the 100 breaststroke and Colby a 57.79 in the 100 butterfly.
Also for Southington, Jackson Malsheske brought home the 500 freestyle in 5:13.25.
E.J. Suski took first in diving with a score of 257.95.
Sheehan 75, East Haven 60: Contributions across the board carried the Titans to the SCC Housatonic victory in East Haven.
Garrett Molampy put up a game-high 26 points while also dishing six assists, while Kris Jackson notched a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Brett Stasiewski sparked the defense while scoring 12 points at the other end of the floor. Jack McDonnell was a play-maker with 11 rebounds and eight assists.
Leading 27-22 at halftime, SHeehan outscored the Yellowjackets 48-38 in the second half to improve to 11-6 overall and 2-5 in the Housy.
Alias Ford’s 21 points were tops for East Haven (4-13, 0-6).
Platt Tech 56, Wilcox Tech 44: Kamien Murphy cranked out seven 3-pointers and piled up a game-high 28 points to power the Panthers past the Indians in a CTC matchup in Meriden.
Isaiah Thomas had a stellar game for Wilcox. He hit four 3’s and finished with 22 points.
Joe Scala added nine points for the Tribe.
Wilcox fell to 7-9. Platt Tech jumped to 11-6.
Lyman Hall 44, Lauralton Hall 35: Trailing 27-17 in the third quarter of this SCC Quinnipiac game in Milford, the Trojans rallied behind Hailey Bruneau, who got hot from 3-point range and hit three of her four treys in the fourth quarter.
Along the way, Bruneau knocked down the 100th 3-pointer of her career.
The senior finished with a team-high 16 points. Defensively, Bruneau snagged five steals.
Brianna Mik was on the money for 15 points and Natalie Panagrosso added seven as LH outscored the Cruaders 21-8 in the fourth quarter.
The Trojans completed the regular season at 11-9 overall and 3-5 in the Quinnipiac. Lauralton Hall closed at 1-19 and 1-7.
Cheshire 40, Branford 33: After snapping a 13-game losing streak on Wednesday at Lyman Hall, the Rams made it two straight with the SCC interdivisional win in Cheshire.
The Rams outscored the Hornets 22-13 in the second half to improve to 5-14.
Kaylee Clark put up 16 points for Cheshire. Gabby Lucertini matched it with 16 for Branford, which closed the regular season at 7-13.
Cheshire plays North Haven on Monday in its regular-season finale.
Middletown 57, Maloney 29: The Spartans were plagued by 30 turnovers in the CCC South-Colonial Division setback in Middletown
The Blue Dragons improved to 9-10 behind 18 points from Shadae Bushay and 12 from Tyah Pettaway.
Liv Aitken had a team-high nine points and Gracey Massicotte added eight for Maloney (2-17).
Maloney hosts Platt on Tuesday night in the regular-season finale for both teams.
Berlin 56, Platt 29: The Redcoats ran out to an 18-4 lead after one quarter in posting the CCC South-Colonial Division victory in Berlin.
Lyzi Litwinko’s game-high 16 points paced Berlin (17-2).
Ja’lexia West led Platt (3-16) with 10 points. Vianna Alcantara hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with nine.
Southington: The Lady Knights capped an undefeated regular season Thursday by scoring 139.55 to top Farmington (124.65) and host Wethersfield (85.45) in a CCC tri-meet at Silas Deane Middle School.
Southington put up some of its best scores of the season to date in improving to 8-0.
Natalie Reeves recorded a 9.4 on floor and a 9.0 on beam en route to an all-around 35.2.
Kat Drechsler popped a 9.35 off vault and scored 9.15 on floor. She also had an all-around score of 35.2.
Kelly Perrotti earned a 9.0 on bars and an 8.9 off vault. Perrotti’s all-around score was 34.55.
Also for Southington, Kaylin Leifert had an 8.8 on floor and an 8.75 on vault. Liz Beaulieu hit for 8.65 off vault.
The Lady Knights close the regular season with the highest average score statewide (139.320). They next compete on Feb. 29 at the CIAC Class L championship at Jonathan Law.
