MONDAY SCHOLASTICS: Southington’s Richardson nets career goal No. 100; Cheshire volleyball wins sixth straight

SOUTHINGTON — Talie Richardson scored her 100th career goal in Southington’s latest girls lacrosse conquest, a 15-2 romp over Lewis Mills on Monday night at Fontana Field.

Richardson, a senior, collected a hat trick in reaching the miestone.

Kayli Garcia factored into five goals, scoring two and setting up three others, as the Blue Knights upped their record to 6-1.

Lilli Doran and Auria Mullins added two goals apiece, with Mullins also earning an assist.

Taylor Foresi, Makayla Winegar and Nicole DePodesta each had one goal and one assist.

The Blue Knights also got single goals from Maggie Ritchie, Gabby Castonguay and Allie Barner.

Golf

Cheshire 171, Guilford 173: The Rams clipped the Grizzlies on the road at Madison Country Club behind A.J. DePaolo’s co-medal round of 39.

Nick Fortunato shot a 41. Jack Brewster came in with a 45. Chris Scoffone capped the scoring with a 46.

The Rams are now 5-1.

Wilcox Tech 216, Kaynor Tech 243: The Indians moved into first place in the CTC Nutmeg with the divisional win at East Mountain Golf Course.

Jake Ashmore earned the medal with a 49 for host Kaynor (3-1, 2-1 Nutmeg).

Wilcox (6-1, 4-0 Nutmeg) countered with a 51 from Cole Maluszewski and a 52 from Colin Fletcher. Alex Segaline shot a 55. Jacob Long and Aiden Suski both came in with a 58.

Lyman Hall: Braden Kawalik shot a team-low 50 for the Trojans in their home match against Foran at Wallingford Country Club.

The Lions carded a 190 led by co-medalists Luke Thomas and Kaitlen Pobhrewski.

Alexa Marino came in with a 53 for LH (0-5). Heather Blier shot a 64.

Boys tennis

Cheshire 6, Branford 1: The Rams took all four singles matches in chalking up the SCC win in Branford and improving to 8-1.

No. 1 Utsav Subramani and No. 2 Yasha Laskin both pitched 6-0, 6-0 shutouts. No. 3 Andrew Gershfeld (6-0, 6-1) dominated as well.

Josh Goldstein completed the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 4.

In doubles, Nate Houle and Jacob Niebling took the No. 1 match 6-1, 6-2. Ryan Shan and Shrey Sheth were 7-5, 6-4 winners at No. 2.

Sheehan 5 Hamden 2: The Titans loom large at 8-1 after beating the Green Dragons in Hamden.

It was a good SCC battle. Three of the four singles matches went three sets, led by Avery Solan’s 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 rally at No. 1. Satvik Agnihotram took his at No. 4 for Sheehan via a super-tiebreaker 4-6, 6-4, 10-2.

The Titans swept doubles handily. Jadin Kapoor and Matt Carboni notched a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 1. Conner Duffey and Vrak Patel rolled 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2. Hamden forfeited the No. 3 match.

Girls tennis

Southington 7, Bristol Eastern 0: The Blue Knights had a quick bounce-back from Saturday’s loss in South Windsor, blanking the Lancers in a CCC crossover in Southington.

No. 1 Riley Tindall led the charge in singles 6-1, 6-1. Avery Halloran and Ali Bruce were 6-2, 6-4 winners at No. 1 doubles.

Southington, now 7-2, got additional singles wins from No. 2  Adriana Palmieri (6-1, 6-2), No. 3 Alina Rivera (6-0, 6-2) and No. 4 Marina Chaplinsky (6-1, 6-1).

The No. 2 doubles team of Fanola Dede and Emma Pfanzelt (6-0, 6-1) and the No. 3 tandem of Casey Sullivan and Julia Rusiecki (6-0, 6-0) were well in control of their matches.

Boys volleyball

Cheshire 3, Shelton 2: The Rams swept this SCC showdown in Shelton 25-19, 28-26, 25-19.

Both teams now stand at 7-2.

Setter Tim Nugent was dealing, handing out 30 assists as the Rams won their sixth straight.Cheshire:

Jeremy Alliger owned the net with 12kills and three blocks. Shea Cronin collected eight digs and two aces.
