SOUTHINGTON — Neither rain nor gloom of afternoon nor the Lions of Northwest Catholic could keep Southington girls soccer from making its appointed rounds to 8-0.

The Lady Knights remained undefeated with a 3-0 CCC West-Colonial Division victory Wednesday over Northwest on their home turf.

Emily Eigo and Lexi Almeida combined on a five-save shutout — Southington’s sixth of the season — while Allison Carr, Jessica Carr and Maya Wroblewski provided the scoring.

Jessica Carr and Wroblewski both tallied one goal and one assist, each scoring in the first half. Allison Carr scored the third goal in the second half. 

Shannon Litchfield assisted on Wroblewski’s strike.

Southington out-shot Northwest 18-9, though Northwest did have a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Girls swimming

Meriden Co-op 90, Bulkeley 65: Sophomore Avery Benigni was a double-winner for a second straight day, this time in a victorious outing for the Co-op, which downed the Bulldogs in a CCC South meet in Hartford.

Benigni took the 200-yard IM (2:40.27) and the 100 butterfly (108:52).

Meriden also got individual victories from three freshmen: Kyle Evardone (200 free, 2:26.35), Madelyn Fitzgerald (50 free, 29.47) and Alyssa Hernandez (diving, 156.00).

Jordan Rosario, Katelyn Park, Megan Widener and Jimena Hernandez teamed to win the 200 free relay (2:18.91).

Girls Volleyball

Wilcox Tech 3, O’Brien Tech 0: The Indians improved to 11-1 with the Wednesday night sweep of the Condors in Ansonia. Game scores were 25-10, 25-18 and 25-10.

Chloe LaBissonierre drilled nine aces and Montgomery Rios served seven while also handing out 11 assists.

Sacaria Cooper picked up seven kills and four assists.

Platt 3, New Britain 1: The  Panthers (6-4) halted a three-match with a CCC interdivisional win in New Britain.

Platt dropped the first game 25-20, then took charge 25-17, 25-21 and 25-18.

Jazmir Hudson hammered down a team-high 11 kills and added 12 digs for a double-double.

Emily Hart painted from the service line with nine aces on 18 attempts. She also had 14 digs to lead a defense. Her sister Caitlyn Hart added 12 digs and 29 assists.

Up front, Aaliyah Burnley put up six blocks and put down six kills.

SMSA 3, Maloney 2: Playing in their second five-set match of the week, the Spartans fell short to the Hartford school in a non-conference tilt in Meriden.

Maloney led 2-1 after answering a 25-17 loss in the first game with 25-9 and 25-22 wins in the next two. SMSA regrouped 25-11 in Game 4 and pulled away 15-5 in Game 5.

The Tigers, who got 36 assists from Samra Mujcinovic and 22 digs from Michelle Wegrzyniak, remained unbeaten at 10-0.

Maloney, which was coming off a 3-2 win over rival Platt on Monday, fell to 4-7.

Dasia Mongillo dished 31 assists for the Spartans. Lauran Matias was on fire with 10 kills, six digs and four aces.

Bristol Eastern 3, Southington 0: Unbeaten Eastern improved to 11-0 with a 25-12, 25-14, 25-21 CCC interdivisional sweep of the Blue Knights in Southington.

Zoe Lowe (13 kills, 5 aces) and Riley Plourde (11 kills, 2 blocks) led the way for the Lancers, one of just two undefeated teams left in the CCC (RHAM is the other).

Southington, now 6-4, got 10 digs and five kills from Brooke Cooney. Kayley Smith got her hands on seven digs.
