SOUTHINGTON — The Southington girls volleyball team opened its 2018 campaign with a thrilling 3-2 victory over non-conference foe Masuk on Thursday night.
Game scores were 25-14, 17-25, 25-13, 23-25. The Blue Knights won the decisive final game, 15-8.
Olivia Carpenter dished out 35 assists and Jenna Martin and Brooke Cooney each had nine kills apiece for Southington.
Lynsey Danko totaled 17 digs, Veronika Gorski came through with five blocks and Haley Larrabee added five aces and eight kills in the victory.
Southington is coming off of a 21-4 campaign, making it all the way to the Class LL semifinals before losing to the eventual state champions, Greenwich.
Masuk was 16-7 last year.
Southington will be back in action Friday at home against Conard at 6 p.m.
