SIMSBURY — Sprung by five runs in the top of the first inning, the Southington baseball team led wire to wire Wednesday evening in a 12-5 CCC West crossover win over Simsbury at Memorial Field.
The Blue Knights, ranked No. 6 in the GameTime CT state poll, remain undefeated at 7-0.
Jake DellaVecchia’s bases-clearing double in the top of the first got Southington rolling.
Jack McManus kept the attack engine at a steady hum, going 4-for-5 with a double, home run and two RBI.
The 5-spot was plenty for winning pitcher Vin Borghese, who allowed four hits and one walk while striking out four over five innings work.
Borghese allowed four runs, only two of which were earned. He’s now 3-0 on the season.
Josh Pyle and Connor Whitehead finished up with one inning of relief apiece.
Justin Chiulli added to the offense with two hits in three trips, including a double. Devin Pelletier was 2-for-4. DellaVecchia finished 2-for-2 with five RBI.
Lyman Hall 8, Xavier 6: The Trojans got off the mat with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to knock off the Falcons in a SCC crossover at Pat Wall Field.
Justin Hackett, Aidan Weir and Joe DiCrosta had two hits apiece for LH, which improved to 4-5. Xavier dipped to 5-2.
Hamden 10, Sheehan 3: Jake Pisano’s three-run homer in the top of the first inning sent the Green Dragons on their way to the SCC Hammonasset win over the Titans at Neubauer Field.
Pisano finished 4-for-4 and Hamden, ranked No. 10 in the GameTime CT poll, improved to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the division.
Sheehan (5-4, 2-2 Hammonasset) got a 2-for-4 day from Joe Romano.
Jake Jovia (4-0) got the pitching win for Hamden. Matt Moconyi (1-1) suffered the loss for Sheehan.
Fairfield Prep 13, Cheshire 3: The Jesuits, ranked No. 7 in the state poll, pinned the SCC Hammonasset defeat on the Rams at Burt Leventhal Field.
The win was the sixth straight for Prep, which improved to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the division. The Rams fell to 2-7 and 1-3.
Cheshire, in the middle of a six-game homestand, hosts Sheehan on Friday.
Wilcox Tech 21, Vinal Tech 2 (5 inn.): Every starter in the Wilcox lineup had at least two hits in the CTC romp in Middletown.
After a quiet first inning, the Tribe erupted for nine runs in the second inning and 10 in the third.
John Nevin and Hiram Morales led the charge. Nevin was 3-for-3 and Morales went 3-for-4 with a double.
Brandon Alvarado roped a double and triple in going 2-for-2.
Noah Simone and Derek Rascati were also 2-for-2. Simone tripled; Rascati doubled. Will Cuadrado legged out a triple while going 2-for-4.
Starting pitcher Shawn Mailhot earned the win, striking out five and allowing just two hits in three scoreless innings. Noah Zamarano and Rascati finished up.
Wilcox now stands at 4-4 overall and 4-1 in the CTC. Vinal is 1-4.
