NEW HAVEN — Welcome to varsity, Kendrick Lagamao.
Led by the freshman’s two individual victoriese, the Lyman Hall/Coginchaug boys swim team opened the season with a 94-87 SCC victory over Notre Dame-West Haven at Albertus Magnus College.
Lagamao captured the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 butterfly.
He also swam on two first-place relays, teaming with Josh Ramirez, Alex Sabo and Cam Nielsen on the 200 medley (1:55.24) and with Dylan Zolnik, Nielsen and Nate Strang on the 200 freestyle relay (1:44.95).
Nielsen and Strang swept the freestyle sprints. Nielsen took the 50 in 25.54 and Strang touched in 57.86 in the 100.
Strang capped the meet teaming with Cam Baker, Matt Clem and Ramirez on the first-place 400 free relay (4:02.25).
Ramirez, along with his two relay victories, brought home the 100 backstroke in 1:08.17. Elyse Boothroyd won diving with 226.35 points.
Cheshire 98, Southington 85: The Blue Knights had a double-winner in Derek Melanson in this non-conference matchup with the Rams at Cheshire Community Pool.
Melanson captured the 500 freestyle in 5:01.81 and the 100 backstroke in 56.90.
Also for the Blue Knights, Tyler Heidgerd won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.20 and E.J. Suski took first in diving with a score of 227.10.
