FRIDAY SCHOLASTICS: Sheehan girls shake brief slide; Nielander’s 21 not enough for Wilcox



NEW HAVEN — The Sheehan girls basketball team snapped a two-game slide with a 63-51 SCC interdivisional victory over Wilbur Cross on Friday night.

The Titans lowered the boom with a balanced attack, getting 18 points from Liv Cassesse, 14 from Madison DiPasquale and 13 from Molly Smolenski.

Reilly Hunter added eight points as Sheehan improved to 5-2.

Wilbur Cross, now 0-5, was led by Winiya Corey’s 16 points. Paige Brooks and Tanner Punzo scored 13 apiece.

Amity 46, Lyman Hall 29: The Trojans (0-7) were left still looking for their first win following the SCC interdivisional defeat in Woodbridge.

Jayne Whitman knocked down a trio of 3-pointers en route to a game-high 15 points for Amity (4-5).

Macy Buccheri led Lyman Hall with 11 points. She also had three 3-pointers.

Lauren Cretella added five points for LH. Vivian Cain collected nine and Jill Barnes pocketed eight for Amity.

Platt Tech 45, Wilcox Tech 36: The Wildcats dropped to 3-6 with the CTC setback to the Panthers in Milford.

Paced by Angelina Tocci’s game-high 14 points, Platt Tech (4-4) led throughout, establishing a 17-7 lead in the first quarter.

Aliah Biro was top scorer for Wilcox with 12 points.

Tatiana Robles delivered nine for the Meriden squad. Grace Speeg scored eight and Chloe Enger added seven.

Boys basketball

Platt Tech 72, Wilcox Tech 54: Platt Tech’s big three of Ismael Castillo (21), L.J. Wade (20) and Akellie Clarke (17) combined for 58 points to power the Panthers to the CTC win in Meriden.

Griffin Nielander had another strong game for Wilcox, following up Wednesday’s 20-point performance against Lyman Hall with 21 against Platt Tech.

Efrank San Antonio collected 13 points for the Wildcats and Alex D’Errico was also in double figures with 10.

Platt Tech came away at 3-4, Wilcox at 0-7.

Xavier 51, Cheshire 42: The Falcons staked themselves to a 17-11 lead in the first quarter and made it stand up the rest of the way in recording the SCC crossover victory in Cheshire.

With Anthony Parker scoring a game-high 21 points, Xavier evened its record at 4-4.

Cheshire (1-5) got 13-point games from Eric Levens and Matt Jeffery. Jack Markarian added seven.
