MILFORD — Three-point games from Joe Romano and Brendan Connery led the way for the Sheehan hockey team Wednesday night in a 6-3 victory over the Milford Co-op at the Milford Ice Pavilion.
The SCC/SWC Division III victory puts the Titans at 12-2-1 heading into Saturday night’s rivalry showdown with the Lyman Hall Co-op.
Against Milford, Sheehan never trailed, though Milford did pull even 1-1 early in the second period and closed to within 3-2 early in the third.
Each time, the Titans answered quickly.
Anthony DeFilio, set up by Andry Guy and James Stratton, put Sheehan up to stay one minute after Milford forged the 1-1 tie. Romano followed with his second goal of the evening to extend the Sheehan lead to 3-1 before the second period was out.
In the third, a goal by Dylan Hennessey refortified the lead 40 seconds after Milford made it 3-2 with 10:40 to play.
Romano had an assist to go with his two goals. Connery set up three goals. Hennessey had a goal and an assist. Anthony Romano added a pair of assists.
Devin Napoli and Luke Festa capped the victory with third-period goals.
Now it’s on to Saturday’s showdown with Lyman Hall/Haddam-Killingworth/Coginchaug at Wesleyan on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Sheehan and the LH Co-op played to a 5-5 tie in their first meeting of the year Dec. 28 at Northford Ice Pavilion.
Branford 2, Lyman Hall Co-op 1: The Trojans drew first blood with a first-period goal by Tommy Ralston, but the Hornets answered with a pair in the second period to earn the SCC/SWC Division II victory at Northford Ice Pavilion.
With the win, Branford avenged its lone loss of the season — LH beat the Hornets 4-2 on Dec. 30 — and upped its CIAC Division II-leading record to 13-1-1.
The Trojans slipped to 8-6-1.
