ICE HOCKEY: Hilinski’s hat trick is timely for the T-Men

WEST HAVEN — Senior defenseman Brenden Hilinski notched the hat trick to lead the Sheehan hockey team over host Amity 7-3 late Wednesday night at Bennett Rink.

Hilinski’s third goal came at a critical juncture early in the third period. Amity, down 4-0 in the second period, had scored three straight goals to close to within 4-3.

Hilinski’s goal returned momentum to the Titans, and they sealed the SCC/SWC Division II victory with a pair of goals by Max Festa and Billy Totz in the final minute.

Anthony DeFilio got Sheehan on the board 1:12 into the second period after a scoreless first. Andry Guy converted in the slot two minutes later to push the advantage to 2-0.

Hilinski then got his first two goals off assists from Festa and DeFilio.

With the win, Sheehan improved to 10-1 and leap-frogged Lyman Hall (9-1) into the No. 1 spot in the CIAC Division II playoff points.

The Trojans are scheduled to play Daniel Hand on Saturday night at the Nortford Ice Pavilion, weather permitting, while the Titans are scheduled to travel to the Milford Ice Pavilion to face the Milford Co-op.
