WALLINGFORD — Sheehan won again. Southington remained unbeaten. Cheshire won its home opener.
Tuesday’s top girls swimming headline, however, ultimately went to a diver.
Lyman Hall junior Maggie Corso broke the six-dive record at her school with the score of 255.80 she compiled in a SCC crossover meet with Jonathan Law at the Sheehan pool.
Corso’s winning score also helped drive the Division II Trojans past the Division I Eagles, 104-82.
Earlier at the Sheehan pool on Tuesday, the host Titans thumped Mercy 96-75.
And over at the Cheshire Community Pool, the Rams swam past Guilford 101-77, while Southington journeyed up to Enfield for a CCC interdivisional meet and came home a 76-44 winner.
That’s a 4-for-4 day, with a record to boot. Here are the details:
Lyman Hall: Along with Corso’s record score in diving, the Trojans had double-winners in Meredith Loughlin, Grace D’Amico and Hailey Baker in improving to 3-1.
Loughlin swept the distance freestyles, clocking in at 2:12.49 in the 200 and 5:58.71 in the 500.
D’Amico won the 200 IM (2:29.03) and 100 backstroke (1:05.91) after leading off the 200 medley relay ahead of Sienna DeLucia, Jessica Rinaldi and Lucia Zito (2:08.25).
Baker brought home the 100 butterfly (1:03.34) and 100 breaststroke (1:14.55). She also launched a winning relay — the 200 freestyle (1:52.25). Baker was joined in that race by DeLucia, Rinaldi and Loughlin.
The freestyle sprints were won by Natalia Gagliardi and Rinaldi. Gagliardi took the 50 in 26.87. Rinaldi touched in 1:00.66 in the 100.
LH signed off with a winning time of 4:06.82 in the 400 freestyle relay. Baker anchored behind Zito, Loughlin and D’Amico.
Sheehan: With their win over Mercy, the Titans pocketed their second straight decision and improved to 2-3.
Isabelle Hodum and Kaylynn Chen were individual double-winners and relaymates on the first-place 200 freestyle with Sophie Math and Hanna Nagy-Leranth (1:51.79).
Hodum handled the distance races, touching first in the 200 freestyle (2:08.25) and 500 free (5:42.48). Chen captured the sprints with times of 26.94 in the 50 free and 58.64 in the 100.
Math’s time of 1:08.85 won the 100 butterfly. Emmalyn Rodriguez took diving with a score of 207.30.
Sheehan also got a solid afternoon from Riley McMahon, who won the 200 IM (2:34.24) and led off the first-place 200 medley relay (2:08.86) ahead of Nagy-Leranth, Chen and Rodriguez.
Cheshire: In their first meet of the year at Cheshire Community Pool, the Rams improved to 3-0 with their 101-77 victory over Guilford.
Julia Barto and Natalia Gajecki led the way. Barto won the 200 freestyle (1:56.79) and 500 free (5:09.04), while Gajecki was victorious in the 200 IM (2:20.37) and 100 butterfly (1:02.14).
The duo teamed with Gabrielle Williamson and Carly Cahill on the winning 200 medley relay (1:53.16).
Gajecki and Cahill later combined with Julia Tejeda and Grace Hanke on the 400 freestyle relay that closed out the meet with a winning time of 3:51.86.
Tejeda was coming off an individual win in the 100 backstroke (1:03.20).
Also for CHS, Courtney Gutmann took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.80) and joined forces with Annie Superchi, Williamson and Morgan McDonough on the 200 freestyle relay (1:46.72).
Southington: The Blue Knights won every event in easing past Enfield at the Annex Pool. Southington is now 4-0.
Kyra Nguyen set the pace, dashing to a 27.65 in the 50 freestyle and going long in 5:58 to take the 500 free.
Alexis Nguyen took first in the individual 200 freestyle (2:16.06) and combined with Victoria Korczak, Rachel Alejandro and Reaghan Samson on the 200 free relay (1:56.40).
Samson and Korczak were on the opposite ends for the 200 medley relay. Samson led off and Korczak anchored. Ella Nadeau and Mariam Labadze joined them on a winning time of 2:02.79.
Nadeau and Labadze also combined on the 400 free relay with Rachel Alejandro and Alex Szczepanik (4:03.92).
Individually, Nedeau won the 100 backstroke (1:04.14), Korczak captured the 100 freestyle (1:03.25) and Mia Kennedy was first in the 200 IM (2:31.38).
Julia Laszewski was tops in the 100 butterfly (1:06.34). The 100 breaststroke went to Julianne Darling (1:23.78).
