Rosanne Ford, Midstate president, said the business joined the chamber over the summer. She was anxious to give it a try.“This is something that I had to try out in order to understand,” Ford said. “It really is a wonderful activity and reminds me of axe throwing. I think that the business will flourish.”Fork Plus Band Slingshot was part of NESIT Makerspace, which is also affiliated with the Chamber. The business is set to stay open at the mall as a “pop-up” shop until Feb. 15.“We are very excited to officially open and so that people can give this sport a chance,” said owner Andrew Cislo. “It’s often seen as a dangerous sport, but it’s actually safe and doesn’t require any strength.”The business has three components: the shooting gallery, slingshot sports and slingshot shop, where customers can buy a slingshot or Fork Plus Band T-shirt.“We are now open to the public and we set up our website so that people can easily reserve a spot,” Cislo said. “People will reserve their spot and then they come and use our equipment. No need to bring their own. We provide everything.”How does it work?Customers can reserve their spot online at www.forkplusbandslingshot.com. The website gives information about each slingshot activity, and allows the customer to choose from four different lane themes: rock ‘n’ roll, sports, enchanted forest and carnival. There are eight stations that accommodate two players each.“When reserving, customers will put in their height so that we can match a band that fits their arm length,” Cislo said. “It’s important so that they have an advantage when shooting.”Once checked in, customers will put on safety glasses provided by the business. Cislo will then do a small demonstration, teaching newcomers how to shoot properly. Ralph Mesite, chairman of the Midstate Chamber of Commerce board, tried out the sport on Tuesday evening. “Andy gave me a quick demonstration and I was able to catch on quickly,” he said. “It’s easy. I would recommend this to others who want to try out something new.”When shooting, customers will hit still and moving targets that were created by Cislo, his wife Naomi and his daughter. Stephany Morales, ambassador of the Chamber and realtor, brought her nine-year-old daughter Bella Santiago to try out the activity. “I didn’t tell her what it was before coming in and when we walked in, she got so excited to try it out,” Morales said. “It’s a great activity for kids and teens to try out.”What are the different options?Customers can choose between the shooting gallery and slingshot sports when reserving their spot. The shooting gallery is six meters and is beginner friendly, giving customers the opportunity to practice. For slingshot sports at Fork Plus Band, the lanes are 10 meters, but the sport can go up to 15 meters, according to Cislo. Sessions are one hour long and $35 per person with a 10% discount for 4 or more players. The business is also open for private and team building events. “They can shoot as much as they want within the hour,” Cislo said.
