NEW LONDON (AP) — Authorities say U.S. Coast Guard workers rescued three New London fishermen after their boat caught on fire.
The Day reports (http://bit.ly/1pVYjF4 ) the fire was reported around 6:45 a.m. Sunday in an area south of Fishers Island.
The fishermen had abandoned the 50-foot-liner and boarded a life raft by the time rescuers arrived at about 7:15 a.m. A Coast Guard spokesperson says the boat sank an hour later.
Authorities say the fishermen were not injured, and all three were wearing survival gear and life jackets when Coast Guard crews arrived.
The fishermen weren’t immediately identified. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
