12 rescued from sinking boat in Long Island Sound

STAMFORD (AP) — Authorities in Connecticut say a dozen people were rescued after their boat took on water in the Long Island Sound.

Stamford fire officials say the group had been boating from Norwalk to Stamford on Monday afternoon when their boat started sinking off of Shippan Point.

Officials say 12 people were safely evacuated from the 39-foot-long boat that had apparently hit rocks outside of the East Break Wall. No injuries were reported.

Fire Officer Michael Dragonetti says the tide had been unusually low in the area.
