Car fire closes section of Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike in Southington

SOUTHINGTON — Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike was closed at Canal Street Thursday afternoon while firefighters responded to a car fire.

The car fire was reported about 3:45 p.m. in the road near Manor Inn Restaurant, 1636 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike. No injuries were reported. Firefighters quickly responded and extinguished the fire. The cause wasn’t immediately clear. The road was reopened about 4:30 p.m.
