Southington man injured after tractor-trailers collide on Route 8

SOUTHINGTON — A local man was hospitalized with minor injuries after two tractor-trailers collided on Route 8 Friday morning.

The accident occurred near the Naugatuck-Waterbury line around 4 a.m., according to state police. Larry Shunk, 55, of Southington, was driving a tractor-trailer north on Route 8. Maurice Dozier, 33, of Waterbury, was driving a tractor-trailer just in front of Shunk. Dozier’s vehicle veered into the right shoulder and struck a metal barrier and embankment, causing it to rollover on its side back onto the highway. Shunk struck the rear of the Dozier’s tractor-trailer, causing it to rollover again and come to a rest on its side.

Shunk was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury with minor injuries. Dozier was taken to Waterbury Hospital with undetermined injuries, according to state police.

Traffic was delayed for several hours while the trucks were removed from the highway. The accident is under investigation, state police said.
