Exit ramp on I-84 in Southington reopens after accident, vehicle fire



SOUTHINGTON – A man was taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital with serious injuries after an accident and vehicle fire on Interstate 84 east Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred about 12:30 p.m. on the exit 28 off-ramp. Fire officials said a car was fully engulfed in flames when the first crews arrived. The ramp was closed but reopened by 5 p.m.

State police and fire officials could not immediately provide additional information on the crash.

A second accident was reported in the same area shortly after the car fire, state police said. The second accident was reported with a fuel spill and was in the area of the exit ramp from I-84 east to I-691.
