13th Senate District Candidates
Mary Daugherty Abrams*
Occupation: State Senator
Education: Undergraduate and graduate degrees in Special Education, Sixth Year in Educational Leadership, Southern Connecticut State University
Platform: Running for reelection to represent the shared values of the people of the 13th Senate District. Proud of my record of accomplishments to protect working families, support small business, expand access to quality affordable health care, protect women’s right to choose, promote equity in education, especially throughout the pandemic.
Other: Endorsed by Working Families Party. After growing up in Meriden, my husband Jim and I chose to raise our children, Madeline and Nicholas, here. After a career in education as a teacher and administrator, I am honored to be the state senator for the 13th District and serve the community I love.
(Jim Abrams is a former state representative and current Superior Court judge.)

Occupation: Bank regulatory compliance consultant
Education: B.S. in economics, Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania
Platform: The cost of living in Connecticut has become too expensive in large part because of state government policy. This is reflected in the tax burden and in our electricity costs which are inflated by energy politics. Eversource must be held accountable and the budget balanced without tolls and tax increases.
Other: Endorsed by the Independent Party. Electricity costs have become outrageous. Eversource charges the highest electricity costs in the continental U.S. and the difference is substantial — more than 80% above the national average. Eversource and its $19 million/year president must be brought under control and state energy policy that inflates electricity costs reconsidered and rescinded.
