BRISTOL — A Wallingford man was killed and a woman was in critical condition after a truck collided with a motorcycle in Bristol Friday afternoon.
About 1:40 p.m. Friday, a Waste Management truck driving on South Street in Bristol turned left onto East Road, striking a motorcycle, according to police spokesman Lt. Richard Guerrera. Raymond Smith, 49, of Wallingford, was driving the motorcycle with passenger Allison Vandermaelen, 41, also of Wallingford.
Smith was taken to Bristol Hospital where he died from his injuries, Guerrera said. Vandermaelen was flown by LifeStar to Hartford Hospital, where she was listed in grave condition, Guerrera said. As of noon Monday, Vandermaelen was listed in critical condition, according to a Hartford Hospital spokesman. An update on Vandermaelen’s condition was not available Monday night.
The driver of the truck was identified by police as Robert Choinski, 31, of New Britain. The crash is under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call 860-584-3035.
