PLAINVILLE — Devyn McCarty spun a four-hitter and smacked a grand slam Friday to lead division-leading Platt to an 11-1 thumping of Plainville in a CCC South-White road contest.
The Panthers are 10-6 overall and 4-0 in the division. The Blue Devils fell to 6-10, 2-3.
McCarty (1-2) walked one and struck out five. The lone run he allowed in the route-going effort was unearned.
Jon Cahill slugged a two-run homer and collected three RBI on two hits for Platt.
Jake Baker was 3-for-3 with a triple. Cameron Germe went 3-for-4 and scored two runs.
Lyman Hall 6, West Haven 4: Derek Delaney was touched for four runs and five hits in the first two innings. After that, he allowed only two baserunners as the Trojans rallied to the SCC Housatonic victory at Pat Wall Field.
It was a much-needed tonic for LH (9-8), which had mustered just five runs and 11 hits in its three previous outings this week.
Delaney went the distance in improving to 3-2. He allowed only one earned run and the five early hits. He walked four and struck out five.
“He came up with a gutsy performance,” said coach Chuck Burghardt. “He was down, but he didn’t let it bother him.”
While Delaney held West Haven (7-8) in check, the Trojans battled back from 4-0 down. They got two runs in the third inning on Ethan Day’s RBI double and Braydon Lyons’ RBI single.
They tied it in the fourth, with Nick Santello doubling and scoring on a Jake Ranney single. Day (2-for-2) later delivered a sacrifice fly.
Ranney’s RBI double brought home Santello with the go-ahead run in the fifth. Kal Gonzalez’s pinch-hit single to score Russ Edeen added insurance in the sixth.
Edeen went 2-for-3, Ranney and Lyons 2-for-4.
East Catholic 2, Southington 1: Ryan Sheehan walked only two and struck out nine in a route-going performance, but both walks scored, the clincher coming with the bases-loaded in the seventh inning.
Southington (9-4) tied the game in the fourth when John Mikosz led off with a single, Jake Babon walked and Jeremy Mercier lashed a run-scoring single.
Valley Regional 11, Wilcox Tech 4: The Indians led 5-0 in the fifth only to surrender six runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to suffer the nonconference loss in Deep River.
Wilcox (12-4) built its lead with two in the third on RBI singles by Jakob Thiede and Tanner Rhodes (2-for-3).
Jack Rich added a RBI for the Tribe.
Brett Baribault (3-2) took the loss in four innings of work.
